This volume follows the Koskela family during the sometimes turbulent decades after Finland’s independence, from 1918 into the 1950s. It offers a detailed account of attitudes toward the social reforms and the complications of the second World War.
The author received the Nordic Prize for Literature in 1963. His most famous works are The Unknown Soldier and the Under the North Star trilogy.
